Single Sign-On (SSO) allows you to log in once and gain access to several different systems without needing to log in again at each of them. It simplifies the login process and enhances security. Here are three examples:
- Workplace Systems: Logging into your company's portal once allows you to access your email, employee dashboard, and internal applications without needing to sign in separately to each one.
- Educational Platforms: A student logs into their university's portal once and can then access their online library, course materials, and student records without additional logins.
- Online Services: Using a Google account to sign into various apps and websites, like YouTube, Google Drive, and third-party apps that support Google SSO, without needing to create separate usernames and passwords for each service.
Googles service has also expanded to include 3rd party sites such as streaming and music services. So using SSO can give the service provider incredible leverage and the routing data can be sold and leveraged commercially.
